New Technology at St. Vincent's Birmingham Helps With Cancer Detection
St. Vincent's Birmingham is proud to offer 3T Breast MRI, considered the most advanced technology of its kind in the world. Mammograms have long proven to help with the early detection of breast cancer. And, when the disease is caught early and followed up with treatment, it can reduce mortality. Now, there’s even more good news. Women who are at higher risk of having breast cancer can get a Breast MRI in addition to mammography to help screen for the disease.
The American Cancer Society recognizes that there is a benefit to Breast MRI. The test uses a magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer instead of radiation to get detailed images of the body’s organs and tissues. These images can reveal valuable information, some of which cannot be detected by a mammogram.
